Components of a Best Mans Speech
If you are wondering what a best mans speech should contain, you aren’t alone! I was pretty clueless about these kinds of things until I got my hands on a little resource that clarified the entire process. In a nutshell, here is what I learned from this helpful guide created specifically to help guys like you and me write kick-ass best man wedding speeches and a funny best man toast:
1) Thank the groom and the father of the bride for their speeches and again thank all of those attending. This part was easy for me; since I have known the groom for so long I could include some special hellos to a few members of the groom’s family that I knew had made a special effort. I also did a shout out to the groomsmen and bridesmaids.
2) Thank both sets of parents on behalf of the bride and groom. I surprised myself on this part; I even made a little joke about thanking the groom’s parents for helping to raise me too. That got lots of laughs especially from my parents who saw just as much of the groom when we were young.
3) Funny story about the groom and one about the bride. This one was easy for me with regard to the groom. I decided after much deliberation to skip the funny story about the bride and instead recant the story of how I met her and had her laughing about how much build up there was from the groom before he finally introduced her to me for the first time.
4) Make mention of any special achievements of the groom and give a little character reference. I kept to stating the facts.
5) Make mention of any special achievements of the bride and provide a little background on her. I kept to facts again during this section. This is where best man wedding speeches can really go down hill. If you don’t really know the bride well you can misstate facts and end up insulting or embarrassing her.
6) Toast the bride and groom. I kept this part very simple and sincere.
Well, I’m certainly not a public speaker by a long shot, but I’m glad I put the time and effort into preparing my best mans speech. God willing, this will be the only wedding that my best friend will ever have and I certainly didn’t want to let him down.
