The Best Man Toast

Here’s a $64,000 question – Where in the wedding program is the best man toast?  Well, a little background is in order to understand where this is all going.

My best friend, Nick, had asked me to be the best man at his wedding.  We’ve known each other for years and years and even attended the same college.  We’ve seen each other through lots of adventures, some good and some not so good.  It was this strong bond that had developed between us “buds” that made me want to give one of the greatest best man speeches that anyone had ever heard.

But wanting to give a great wedding speech and funny best man toast and actually giving them are two different things!  What to say, how to say it, what kind of jokes to tell, who to direct your jokes at, and the list goes on!

Giving A Best Man ToastSo, I headed to the laptop and searched for resources and tips on wedding speeches and best man toasts, etc… guess what – I got some really good advice.  It took me a little time each night for the better part of a week to get my speech and toasts in at least good enough shape that I felt comfortable practicing it in front of my girlfriend.

Unfortunately, I’m not much of a clown so I knew that a funny speech full of jokes was probably not in order, but yet I wanted to keep it light and say all of the right things.

I found a list of best man speech taboos and made sure I didn’t cross the line and violate them.  The list contained items like insulting the bride, being too verbose or generic, too cool or trying to just “wing” it.

I know that Nick was expecting me to deliver a best man toast that was sincere, light hearted, and not embarrassing.  This was also my goal and the resource I found made it possible to fulfill the groom’s wishes!
